I had something strange happen to me yesterday. I am a proud subscriber of Slate Digital. I love their plugins, I think they sound amazing and the user interfaces are fantastically simple. That being said I ran into some technical difficulties when finishing up a mix for one of my clients. I use two setups for mixing nowadays. One in my studio, and one at home. I have recently bought a mac mini M4 (which is amazing by the way, you should try it) and I've been working on it for recent projects. However, I still have some bigger projects running from 2024 and I have a couple of plugins I can't use on my new mac. Some are outdated (thanks Waves...) and some don't have enough activations. Also I'm hesitant of updating certain plugins because I'm afraid they won't work anymore with past projects (it has happened to all of us I believe). Long story short: on my Mac I have VMR (Virtual Mix Rack) 3.0 installed. On my home computer I have VMR 2.0 (for said reasons). I wanted to do a quick revision for a client and realized halfway in that all of my VMR instances are completely blank / defaulted to just the Virtual Console module. I urge you to pay attention to these kinds of things as they can be detrimental to your mixes. I was luck enough to have a backup file of the project and went straight back into the studio and opened it up, working perfectly as it was supposed to. But yeah, if you're using multiple computers / systems, and you're running Slate Digital plugins, make sure all your systems are up to date. P.S.: in my case, VMR actually did manage to load accordingly from 2.0 to 3.0. So my previous projects, in which I used VMR 2.0, opened up on my new system with VMR 3.0. Just not the other way around.
